Flying over New York City and its iconic skyline, with an incredible view of landmarks like central park and the Statue of Liberty, is breathtaking regardless of the time of day. But the approach at night is truly a spectacle to behold: The net of glittering lights tightens around the city’s outskirts, shades of yellow and orange become denser and melt together as illuminated skyscrapers give depth to the unfolding scene. A crescendo of light, abruptly ended by the black Atlantic coast, where the darkness is only interrupted a few dots that hint at unseen ships.
