history
The Revue Thommen Airspeed watch collection from the watch factory founded in 1853 by Gédéon Thommen is based on almost a century of tradition in the manufacture of flight instruments and pilot watches.
1915
In 1915, Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG received an order from Switzerland for the development of cockpit instruments to be installed in the first aircraft of the newly established Swiss Air Force (Schweizer Luftwaffe). In 1916, Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG delivered its first aircraft clock to the Swiss Air Force.
1936
In 1936, Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG developed altimeters as well as airspeed and vertical speed indicators for the multipurpose C-35 biplane produced in Switzerland for the Swiss Air Force by the state-owned Eidgenössische Konstruktionswerkstätte (Federal Construction Works).
1950-1990
In the second half of the 20th century, Revue Thommen AG rapidly expanded its production of flight instruments and equipment for the aviation industry, supplying over 80 leading civil and military aircraft manufacturers. It wasn’t only the Swiss Air Force that trusted in Revue Thommen watches and flight instruments.
Revue Thommen on-board chronographs were used in the Swiss Air Force, in the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter of the German Air Force, and in the helicopters and the Tornado of the Royal Air Force. What’s more, the paratroopers of the Swiss Army performed jumps with Revue Thommen watches and THOMMEN altimeters.
1980 - 2014
Several Airspeed models were developed under the brand Revue Thommen Airspeed, which were popular among customers: quartz, mechanical and automatic watches and chronographs.
