The sky’s vastness has captured human imagination for eternity: Today we can reach almost every point on earth by flying. But whether we are gazing at the passing clouds, holding a kite on a windy day or are looking down on a sea of white from an airplane, it is one sky and its countless faces that still feed our imagination. With a one hundred years of history in aviation, we are proud to present the Revue Thommen Airspeed in a modernized look and four colour variations, capturing a fraction of the endless inspirations our sky has to offer. Suited for pilots and passengers, stargazers and skydivers alike; anyone marvelling at this vast space who doesn’t want to get lost in time.
Whatever your reasons for travelling may be, these four landing approaches are sure to leave a lasting impression: combining the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape with the architectural elegance of their urban setting.
Flying over New York City and its iconic skyline, with an incredible view of landmarks like central park and the Statue of Liberty, is breathtaking regardless of the time of day. But the approach at night is truly a spectacle to behold: The net of glittering lights tightens around the city’s outskirts, shades of yellow and orange become denser and melt together as illuminated skyscrapers give depth to the unfolding scene. A crescendo of light, abruptly ended by the black Atlantic coast, where the darkness is only interrupted a few dots that hint at unseen ships.
MoreWhen landing on Hulhulé Island right by the capital city of Malé in the Maledives, one might think the plane will touch down on the Indian Ocean itself. After the flight over the open ocean and its endless blue, where the sky seemingly merges with the waves, tiny specks of land rise above its surface. A narrow strip of sand is just wide enough to fit a runway whose bare concrete surface lies in stark contrast to the densely packed city next to it. Malé -growing out into the ocean- appears almost surreal besides the virtually pristine atolls surrounding it, and the connecting flights aboard a tiny seaplane that will bring you to those atolls are an experience in their own right.
MoreWhen flying into Manaus -the largest city in the Amazon Rainforest- the sheer scale of the Brazilian landscape becomes apparent: Miles upon miles of jungle cover expansive river deltas and the surrounding flatlands, where the contrast of meandering waters and geometrical roads and fields paint an almost surreal picture. And after this seemingly endless sea of green, at the confluence of two massive streams, Manaus emerges from the forest: Skyscrapers shine in white and silver like an urban wedge between the black waters of Rio Negro and the earthy brown of the Amazon, which flow together here but won’t mix, adding to the feeling that one is stepping into an impressionistic painting.
MoreCradled by some of the most picturesque peaks of the alps at around 1700m above sea level, Samedan Airport is the second highest airport of Europe. Flying between the massive mountains is a spectacle all year around, but especially impressing during the winter months, when winter sports enthusiast flock to the valley from all around the world. Snow covers the sheer black cliffs in a coat of brilliant white, transforming the landscape into an artwork of staggering beauty. The view of the town of St. Moritz and the surrounding villages is breathtaking from the plane.
